So a little while ago I went on a trip to the newly revamped Roman Road market. I wrote a blog post about it. And in that post I mentioned that on one stall I managed to pick up four new dresses for the princely total of just £4. So far so good.
Three of the dresses were pretty plain, two black and one red. But the fourth was a distinctive dark red, white and blue check. I was drawn to it because I like bold prints and because it has a long, full skirt. And because it cost £1. My boyfriend likes it as he says it looks very Danish. And most people who have seen me wear it seem to like it too.
All in all I was very happy with my market stall dress. But then something odd happened. One evening looking at pictures of Michelle Obama on Pinterest I saw her in a check dress. My dress. Not the expensive version of a High Street copy I have, the exact same Asos design.
And it wasn’t just her. Jessica Alba’s got it as well. My dress.
Then I found another picture. I’d seen this one before. Actually, millions of people around the world had seen the picture. Because it’s the world’s most retweeted picture following President Obama’s re-election last year.
So go to your local market! You might leave with a bargain. Or if you’re very lucky with one of the world’s most famous dresses.
