Surprise hit movies come around every so often, but few creep up on us as quietly as The Artist.
Filmed in black and white and containing only a couple of words of dialogue, the film eschews all the expectations of a hit movie. And not only has it been packing out cinemas, it looks set to sweep the board at most award ceremonies this season.
Along with the great story, brilliant (and Oscar nominated) performances and, well, Uggie the dog, one thing that has been getting plenty of attention is the gorgeous wardrobe worn by beautiful leading lady Berenice Bejo in her role of Hollywood starlet Peppy Miller.
While 1920s style was looking set to a key look this year with the influence of Baz Luhrman’s new version of The Great Gatsby already seeping through to the high street, Peppy has pipped them all with her dazzling flapper dresses and elegant cloche hats.
Getting her cute yet elegant look could not be easier, with a few pieces all that’s needed to give your wardrobe a flapper makeover.
Peppy is rarely seen without a cloche hat throughout the film and it is an easy way to give you oufit a 1920s feel. Marks and Spencer currently have a design perfect for the rest of the winter, while the summery style from Accessorize would be perfect with a tennis dress and pumps when it warms up.
One of the defining things about the silent era was how glamorous yet simple the clothes were.
The decade was also a boom time for economic prosperity and the sequined dresses of the era showcase the decadence.
This heavily embellished desingn from Warehouse offers the simple yet seductive style of Peppy’s dress, with the V at the back creating a demure yet irresistable appeal.
