Uniqlo’s partnerships are always interesting, and the news that were to team up with Lulu Guinness was never going to produce anything less than fabulous results.
Her new collection of T-shirts comes as part of a long line of collaborations for Uniqlo, as it has previously worked with everyone from Barbie to Hello Kitty.
The marriage of Lulu Guninness’ designs with Uniqlo produces the mix of quirky English style that references Parisian chic, by way of Japanese sensibilities. It’s where girlie femininity with a grown-up sense of kawaii meet. Lulu’s style is playful and fun, but never for a second feels childish.
Drawing inspiration from her own mainline, they feature playful kitties, her elegant silhouettes and stylised shop fronts.
To celebrate the collaboration the lovely Lulu braved the rain and popped down to Uniqlo’s Oxford Street store to sign some postcards and have a quick chat (“Love your beret! Do you wear red lipstick? You SHOULD wear red lipstick”).
A little pressed for time, we sadly didn’t get to tell her how ten years ago her denim handbag featuring a chic lady on a Vespa was the first proper handbag Kinsey’s creator Kim ever bought from Liberty in London on a trip with her mum and dad. We’re sure she would have loved it.
