What could possibly be cuter than an Alex Monroe bumblebee necklace or a bunny rabbit pendant? A miniature bee and bunny, of course!
For 25 year’s Alex has been creating elegant jewellery, and the latest collection shows that all things can be bright and beautiful, the great and especially the small.
Named after designer Alex’s favourite bird, the Goldcrest range is the first time the brand has created fine jewellery and is divided into four collections: Teeny Tiny, Gemstone, Heritage and Classics.
Teeny Tiny is made up of some of the most popular animal and flora designs from Alex’s mainline collection made, well, teeny tiny. And in the process, ever so cute.
Classics sees some of the designs from the Teeny Tiny line in full size, but made in utterly decadent 18 carat gold.
The Gemstone ring collection is crafted in dazzling but unusual gems, like green amethyst, morganite and aquamarine. Traditional in shape, the colours set them apart.
The Heritage range comprises of eight rings – seven designs of twisting and stackable gold bands numbered one to seven for women and one creation for men, matching the ladies number four.
Although playful, the skill and delicacy of the designs stop the animal motifs from straying into childishness.
Paying a trip the store, the team also had a few samples out to showcase the new designs for next year. In keeping with Alex’s love for nature they are filled with quintessentially English countryside creatures, and each piece has a distinctive sense of humour. A special range is also planned to mark his 25 years creating jewellery.
I was also lucky enough to get to have a chat with Alex and learn a little about what inspires his collection. We also got to exchange a few stories of trips to Japan – unsurprisingly a huge market for him considering how kawaii everything he creates is!
